THANKS TO THE
SYNCHRONISED MECHANISM

If the user leans back, there is a greater angle between the seat and the backrest. At the same time, the seat area moves back and down. The seat area and backrest tilt synchronously in perfect balance with the body’s movement. This mechanism supports the body in any position. The comfortable resistance can be set individually using the rotary cylinder under the seat.

The best design is nothing without the right materials.

Aluminium – for bases and mechanism. Aluminium is lightweight and tough. The aluminium parts of the Leadchair by Walter Knoll consist of 100% recycled material. At the end of the product lifecycle, this aluminium can be fully recycled. Remelting aluminium represents a saving of 94% energy in comparison to the manufacture of primary aluminium.

Polyamide – for the shell back. Polyamide is a thermoplastic synthetic material with high strength. The raw material can be recycled 100% and reused as reclaimed material.

ABS – for upholstered plates and armrest. ABS is a synthetic material with considerable chemical resistance and temperature stability. As a matter of principle, ABS parts by Walter Knoll are manufactured from pure recycled material.

Leather – for the cover. Leather is a natural product: individual, unmistakeable and durable. The leather used by Walter Knoll is subject to strict tests to determine its durability, colourfastness and how easy it is to clean and fulfils the test criteria for national and international requirements.

Steel – for gas cylinder mechanism and assembly parts. Steel is well known for its high strength and elasticity and can be used flexibly in a large number of different forms. At the end of the product life cycle, steel parts can be melted down and completely recycled.

Polyurethane is used in the Leadchair as non-shrink flexible foam for the seat and back. The polyurethane foam parts can be reused 100% both thermally for energy generation and mechanically as rebounded materials.
